BRISTOL ROVERS v PORTSMOUTH 16.02.21
Pompey travel to the Memorial stadium later to face an out of form Bristol Rovers side, without a league win in eight games. They have recently sacked Paul Tisdale after less than three months in charge of the club and currently sit 20th in the table, although level on points with Northampton and Wigan, all currently occupying spots in the relegation zone.
Pompey on the other hand are going to Bristol Rovers off the back of a 2-0 win against Swindon, goals from Ronan Curtis and Ellis Harrison. We were out of action on Saturday after our matchup against Crewe was postponed, so the lads should be raring to go. Pompey do have to opportunity to get back into the automatic promotion places later, if we pick up 3 points and Peterborough fail to beat Gillingham, then we will reclaim a spot in the top 2.
We will be without Michael Jacobs and Alex Bass due to injury, but a welcome return for Jack Whatmough and Rasmus Nicolaisen after an expired three match suspension and the birth of his daughter respectively, giving Kenny a team selection headache about who to play at the back, partnering Sean Raggett. Jack Whatmough has been ever present when available this season, but James Bolton has come into the side and played very well while Jacks been suspended, and arguably doesn’t deserve to be dropped.
Overall this is another game that Pompey should be winning convincing if we want to claim one of the top two spots come the end of the season. I’ll predict a 0-2 win for Pompey tonight. Sean Raggett goal from a set piece due to our success this season from corners and free kicks, and with defending set pieces a main weakness for Rovers. I’ll also go for a Ronan Curtis goal to keep up his recent form.
