READING v MILLWALL 13.02.21

MATCHDAY PREVIEW 🤩 In my opinion this is a must win game to help secure our our place on the playoffs. We played our best football against Brentford and many Bees fans have said we are the best team they have played against this season which gives us a lot of hope. My only concern is team spirit will we go back to like before a start a losing run because of this loss, hopefully the loss will make the players want more and they’ll be ready to bounce back which I expect they are. Millwall are starting to pick up a bit of form winning 2 of their last 5 and drawing the other 3.

We of course were right in form before Brentford although we have only won 2 of our last 5 as well but I would say we still are because of that prem worthy performance. We do have a bit of hope coming into the game however we have won 9 of our last 12 home meetings against Millwall, drawing 2 of the other games and only losing one. Meite and swift still ruled out for tomorrow which is a shame, we could of definitely benefited from from Yaks’ pace and power. Having yiadom back is a huge bonus however and he was class at RB on Wednesday, nothing being taken away from Holmes tho as he has been class for us as well. I just fell Yiadom can give us a bit extra going forward. Will be another tough game but if the boys show up again from Wednesday I will have a lot of confidence. I’m going for Reading 1-0 Millwall

The Lions take the short trip to Reading this afternoon as we look to continue our decent form of late.

After some awful form throughout November and December seeing us pick up only 2 wins in 14, we are currently 5 unbeaten in the league with only 1 defeat in our last 7

We also had an excellent 4-1 victory at home to Sheffield Wednesday last weekend.

Ryan Leonard will be a big miss for us today, our record signing will be side-lined for 2 months we learned this week. That is how our luck has been all season though, injury after injury has hampered any chance to keep a settled side. Hopefully we don't pick up any fresh injuries this weekend.

I don't see much changing from last weekends line-up, the only one will probably be Jed Wallace back into the starting 11 in place of Leonard. The only other question mark is Mahlon Romeo or Danny McNamara at right wing back, but after Mahlon's impressive performance last weekend and goal that got cruelly snatched away from him by the toe of Tom Bradshaw, I think he will get the nod.

This will be a tough afternoon for our defence, I am a big fan of the way Reading are playing this season and some of the players they have at their disposal. Ejaria and Olise are tricky customers and the type of players we usually struggle against. Tom McIntyre is solid at the back whilst also being a threat in the air from set plays. Lucas Joao has been on fire this season and his goals have been crucial for the Royals.

I do take hope though from the fact we are a good side away from The Den, we have only lost 4 of our 14 games away this season and performances have been much better when not on our own patch. If the league were decided on away games only, we would be just outside the play-offs in 8th!

I want to remain optimistic following our recent form and improvement, but this could just be a little step too far. Reading are a better side than us, they play better football. On top of that they have a striker who knows where the net is, a feeling us Lions fans have forgotten.

I will back my side though and go for a sneaky 1-1 draw.
