BARNSLEY VS MILLWALL 27.02.21
Barnsley will be aiming to extend their winning run in the Championship to five games when they take on Millwall at Oakwell. The Tykes have been producing splendid displays in February, and a win over Millwall should see them climb to the playoffs berth. The Lions, on the other hand, are undefeated in the previous 9 league fixtures. The capital club have been impressive at the back of late, but saying that Barnsley managed to keep a clean sheet in each of their previous two league matches.
Barnsley have no fresh injury news going into this one, Ben Williams and Liam Kitching still remain sidelined. On the other hand for Millwall the likes of Cooper, Leonard, Mahoney, Murray Wallace, and Zohore are all likely to miss the game through injuries.
This one could be a draw with both sides keeping strong at the back. However with Barnsley’s winning form recently, they could snatch a winner!
The Lions head North to a not so happy hunting ground this weekend, where we have won only twice in our last eight visits. This is one of the only fixtures I am glad we have no choice but to NOT attend, I have some miserable memories of Oakwell personally. There have been one or two good ones also, but the bad experiences up there outweigh the better ones.
On paper both sides come into this in good form which you would think should make for an entertaining game.
Barnsley have 4 straight victories in the Championship and are unbeaten in 6 league games, Carlton Morris is probably the main man to watch out for but they have so many talented players all over the pitch. Alex Mowatt, a Millwall transfer target in the last window, Is a beast in the middle of the park who scores worldies and has a lovely left peg. Callum Styles has been impressive all season on the left wing, whilst Michal Helik is as solid a centre back as you will find in the division.
There is a lot for Barnsley fans to be pleased and excited with at the minute.
Millwall are a bit of a weird one, If you look at our season as a whole and just take league standings into account, you would think we are having a decent/good season for a club with our resources at this level. And we are in essence. BUT.... and there is a big but here, we are not playing well at all and it is a mystery for most Millwall fans as to how we are doing so well. Especially given we have been double unlucky with injuries all season long and currently have 4 players out injured who would be definite starters should they be fit. Every club has injuries so that's not a moan, well it is, but the sad truth is we have not been able to field our best 11 all season. We also lost our manager and backroom staff for a few weeks due to COVID, so I wont be sad to see the back of this season.
We are currently 9 unbeaten in the League and are looking hard to beat again so that is a positive, but I do feel we will need to perform much better than recent weeks should we expect to take anything from Yorkshire this Saturday. Maybe we need to start with a more positive formation? Many don't like the 5 at the back but no one can doubt its effectiveness for us, so I doubt Mr Rowett will be changing much about the shape. I do think he will mix things up a little bit though as there are a few players who deserve a chance to step into the side, also because the last 2 performances have been extremely flat. I also think Cooper will be back from injury, which will surprise many but will be a massive boost.
Here is my predicted starting 11.
My prediction for the game is sadly going to be a negative one for my lot, I can't see much other than a comfortable home win for the Tykes.
BARNSLEY 2 MILLWALL 0
